This study helped me understand typography as both language and image. By experimenting with density, direction, repetition, and contrast, I learned how text can build form, shadow, and emotional tone while still maintaining visual rhythm and compositional control.
The hardest part was keeping the portrait legible as a face while pushing the type dense enough to read as texture — too sparse and the likeness disappeared, too dense and it became noise. Finding that threshold sharpened how I think about information density more generally: the same tension shows up in interface work, where a screen has to read clearly at a glance while still holding enough detail to be useful up close.
